This course is a prerequisite for the Advanced Core Skills.
Prerequisite for this Course: Graduate degree, or near completion of graduate work, in counseling-related field.
Externship in the Fundamentals
This four-day training provides an in-depth overview of the EFT model. Didactic presentations, case examples and demonstration videos, small group exercises and discussions provide participants with an engaging learning experience. The training includes a live, on-site therapy session conducted by the trainers (dependent on a referral of a suitable couple by participants).
Participants will learn the theoretical underpinnings of Emotionally Focused Therapy, as well as how to:
- Assess couples’ suitability for EFT
- Work through the 9 steps of EFT
- Elicit and work with emotion as it occurs in the sessions
- Work through blocks in therapy
- Develop specific interventions to help couples reprocess negative affect and foster a more secure bond
